Tips for selecting your movies
When viewing a movie page, we offer several ways for you to get a good idea of what a given movie may entail:
How to download a movie using your browser. (not recommended)
Even though we do not recommend it, the most direct manner of obtaining your movies is to download via your web browser. Simply save the file from the download link provided in the AVI Movies box located on the movie page as shown below.
Please continue to read about using a download manager as it will save you a lot of trouble and time.
The best way to download your avi files is to use a download manager. A download manager is a piece of software that works in conjunction with your web browser to manage multiple downloads unattended. All you have to do is set it up and walk away and it will continue to work downloading the files you select.
A download manager is more than convenient because it resumes broken downloads without having to start over.
Using a download manager also accelerates your downloads by using more than a single thread (like your browser) allowing you to download files much faster.
Which download manager should I use?
We recommend Free Download Manager. It is free and easy to install and requires no configuration in most cases. You should be able to use it right out of the box. You can download it at http://freedownloadmanager.org/
Will any download manager work?
No. The software has to be able to process cookies from our site. Free Download Manager has been tested and is compatible with our site. We have received numerous reports that some download managers like Freshdownload are not compatible.
How do I install Free Download Manager?
Having tested with Vista and Internet Explorer 8, Free Download Manager works fresh out of the box. Simply following the installation prompts and it will work in its default configuration.
How to download using Free Download Manager. (recommended)
In this example we are using Vista and Internet Explorer 8 with the recommended Free Download Manager (FDM).
Once logged in, you can click the download link provided in the AVI Movies box located on the movie page as shown below.
If this is your first run of FDM, you may be prompted to allow as shown below. Select allow and the option to hide warning in the future.
FDM will launch and the add download dialog window will appear. You must enter your username password, then select ok.
You will be prompted for FDM to remember your username and password. We recommend doing do.
FDM may download index.cfm. DONT PANIC! This is just the program getting a cookie. It will only happen on the first run of every session.
Repeat the process by clicking the download page again, hit the ok button on the FDM add dialog window and your download will begin.
Select additional downloads and walk away and let it work.
Sometimes when I am using my FDM, I get a service unavailable message.
This is because you are clicking a file that is on the same server as the file you are currently downloading. Most of our servers only allow around 10 connection per ip and a single download in a download manager will use all of those. Thats why the server is appearing as unavailable to you.
To get around this, just right click the download link and select Download with Free Download Manager. It will que the file until it is no longer engaged. If it fails you can always restart when not otherwise engaged on that particular server.
I am only getting block.php when trying to download.
This occurs when you exceed your daily download limit of 36GB. If you wait for 6 hours, you will be able to download normally again.
Help! Free Download Manager is not working with my browser.
If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox, by default Free Download Manager should be integrated with your browser. If you are using another browser, you can follow these steps to ensure integration.
1. Launch Free Download Manager. 2. In the pull down menu, select Options-Settings-Downloads-Monitoring. 3. Click your browser type as shown below. 4. Hit Ok.
You need video player software and the proper video and audio codecs. AVI files come in a lot of shapes and sizes. If you dont have the proper set up you are going to spend time on files that it APPEARS you cannot play. However, all files are playable with the proper software.
For advanced users, we provide a listing of codecs for each file on the movie page. Dont forget to keep your codecs up to date.
For beginners, we recommend downloading and installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. This will allow you to watch pretty much all video you could ever find. It is by far the best option available. Download K-Lite here.
How to install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
Step 1: Launch install package, then hit next.
Step 2: Review information. There is some very important information about the install process. If you are an advanced user and do not intend on following the default install, you should carefully review this information.
Step 3: Review Destination location, then hit next.
Step 4: Select Components. We recommend the Default configuration. This will install all of the codecs needed to play files on our site. It will also make media player classic your default application for viewing avi files. In addition, it will install real alternative and use media player classic to watch real movies. This is pretty much the one stop shop to make most features of actionjav work for you.
Step 5: Select start menu folder, then hit next.
Step 6: Select additional tasks. If you are an advanced user review this carefully to make sure you want everything switched as it is. By default it finalizes the play behavior as described in step 4.
Step 7: Review install details then hit install.
Step 8: Allowing installation to complete.
Step 9: Done. Advanced users can proceed to configuration.
Windows Media Player (WMP) vs. the alternatives
Perhaps the most popular alternative for beginners is Videolan's VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. VLC has two advantages: first, it's available for just about every operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.). Second, it already has recent codecs built-in.
While this sounds like an attractive option, we stand by our claim that Windows Media Player is the optimal choice. Not only is it rich in features, but the playback quality is superior to everything else we have tried. Artifacts in DivX are much less noticable in WMP than other players, and at times this can be extremely important. If you're using another player and find picture quality to be less than desirable, please try WMP before contacting us for support.
Our most recommended player is Windows Media Player Classic (WMPC). You can obtain this from the K-lite website. One of the great things about WMPC is it can often play movie files which WMP, for whatever reasons, can't. This is a great player to have as a backup in the event you have problems playing a movie in WMP.
